LEED Certification
LEED certification stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design and is a globally recognized symbol of sustainability achievement.
The LEED Green Building Rating Program is the most widely used benchmark for green buildings today. It is voluntary program backed by the US Green Building Council and an “entire industry of committed organizations and individuals paving the way for market transformation.”
LEED-certified buildings provide a framework for healthy, efficient, carbon and cost-saving green buildings and are a critical part of addressing climate change, enhancing resilience, and supporting more equitable communities.
The LEED rating program guides, measures, and certifies a building’s performance in terms of energy use, water use, materials use, sustainable site development, and indoor environmental quality. There are LEED rating systems for a wide range of building types from commercial buildings to schools to homes. LEED can be applied to both new and existing buildings. Watershed provides an array of services to help manage the LEED certification process, and train professionals to use it successfully. The earlier in the design process that a project decides to utilize LEED, the greater the potential benefits and the lower the potential for additional costs.
