AIA Alabama Recognizes Rebecca Dunn Bryant, AIA with 2021 Accolade Award

AIA Alabama Honor Awards are presented annually to leaders in the architecture industry.

The American Institute of Architects (AIA) Alabama Chapter has named Rebecca Dunn Bryant, AIA, as the 2021 recipient of the organization’s prestigious Accolade Award at the AIA Alabama Conference on Architecture. AIA Alabama annually presents their Honor Awards to top industry leaders who have made outstanding contributions to the field of architecture. The AIA Alabama Accolade Award, one of the highest honors an AIA member can receive, is a mid-career award intended to recognize achievement and assist the architect in receiving well-deserved recognition and honors from others. Rebecca Bryant received the award in recognition of her 20+ year career in sustainable architecture and advocacy.

Rebecca is the principal of WATERSHED, an architecture firm in Fairhope, Alabama that focuses on sustainable design solutions for a hot humid climate. She is a LEED Fellow, past LEED Faculty, and a frequent speaker at sustainability conferences across the country. Over the past 22 years, Rebecca has provided training in green building practices to thousands of students and community members. Rebecca also serves her community, as the vice chair of the Fairhope Planning Commission and a board member of the Alabama Coastal Foundation.

“It’s humbling to be a part of the group that was recognized this year,” said Rebecca upon receiving the award. “Every time I attend an AIA AL gathering, I discover new ways that so many other architects in our state are creating change and quietly giving back to their communities and to our profession. It’s inspiring, and it challenges me to find more ways for WATERSHED to contribute.”

Other leadership award recipients recognized at the 2021 Annual Conference include David Hinson, who was awarded the Gold Medal Award; Jeremy Cutts, who received the 2021 Young Architect Award; and the AIA Alabama Emerging Professional Awards were given to Nic Gray and Katie Wood.
